Biggie was a boss, so he didn't care what you thought about him, or his lyrics, but that's not what we're going to examine here. He's describing his lust for a woman, but explicitly stating his willingness to blow her father. said, "you look so good, I'll suck on your daddy's d*ck," that was intentionally gay as f*ck. ![]() Despite this, many of the lyrics spat in rap had unintentional gay meanings, which was ironic and hilarious for any listener with awareness. ![]() Saying something that could somehow be perceived as gay had to be met with a "no homo," "pause" or "aye yo" in the parlance of insecure, vigilant homophobes. Rappers like André 3000, Kanye West, Eminem and Drake were all too comfortable talking about their emotions and weaknesses, and they became some of the most popular artists in mainstream music.īut during the era of gangster rap, being gay was seen as the ultimate taboo, and homosexuality was constantly ridiculed and threatened in millions of lyrics from rappers around the world. The 90s cemented this phenomenon, and it wasn't until the early aughts that things began to change. Even though at its inception, it was based on partying and having fun, the genre quickly became defined by bully ethos, and a competition over being the hardest, manliest man out there.
